Managing FCGS in Practice: What Every Technician Should Know
Understand the clinical presentation and treatment options for FCGS, including the potential for stem cell therapy for cats with refractory FCGS.
About the Webinar
This lecture is designed for veterinary technicians and provides a practical, science-based overview of feline chronic gingivostomatitis (FCGS), including its clinical signs, cause of the disease, and underlying immune-mediated nature. The session will review current treatment strategies, including surgery, medical management, and the emerging use of mesenchymal stromal cell therapy for cats with refractory FCGS.
This program has been RACE approved (20-1364055) for 1 hour of continuing education credit for veterinarians and veterinary technicians/technologists in jurisdictions that recognize RACE approval.
Learning objectives
- Describe the current understanding of FCGS etiology, including immune dysregulation and associated contributing factors.
- Recognize the key clinical signs of refractory feline chronic gingivostomatitis and differentiate it from other oral diseases in cats.
- Define refractory FCGS and explain its clinical significance in veterinary practice.
- Discuss current management strategies for FCGS, including medical management and emerging regenerative medicine approaches such as mesenchymal stromal cell therapy, and understand how these therapies target the underlying disease process.
